If we belong to Jesus Christ, we have been chosen to bear fruit:

"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit - fruit that will last." John 15:16

A fruitful tree is a maturing tree. A maturing tree is a carefully cultivated tree. God says we are cultivated for growth by living closely with one another, planted firmly by God's Spirit in the body of Christ (Hebrews 10:24-25).
